Privacy Policy

Scripture Recall helps users review and memorize Bible passages. This policy explains what information the extension handles and why.
Information Handled
The extension stores the following information locally in Chrome:
- User-created verse collections and Bible references
- Enabled or disabled status for individual references
- Memorization ratings and review timestamps
- Translation, display, reminder, interval, pause, and keyboard settings
- The current reference and recently retrieved passage text
- A random API.Bible device identifier
This information is not synced between Chrome profiles by Scripture Recall.
When the extension retrieves passage text, it sends the requested Bible reference and selected translation to the Scripture Recall backend. The backend sends the passage identifier and translation to YouVersion Platform, API.Bible, the ESV API, or bible-api.com as applicable. These requests may inherently include technical request information such as an IP address and timestamp at the hosting and Bible API providers.
When a user views an NKJV passage, the extension creates a random device identifier stored locally and a random identifier retained for the current browser session. The passage's Fair Use Management System (FUMS) token and these random identifiers are sent through the Scripture Recall backend to API.Bible. This reports anonymous NKJV passage-view activity to API.Bible and does not include the user's name, email address, Chrome profile, browsing history, or account information.
Use of Information
Information is used only to provide Scripture reminders, retrieve requested Bible text, satisfy API.Bible's NKJV usage-reporting requirement, manage local collections, and adapt verse selection based on the user's memorization ratings.
Scripture Recall does not operate its own analytics, advertising, or user profiling. API.Bible processes the limited NKJV passage-view information described above for publisher fair-use reporting. Scripture Recall does not sell user information or use it for unrelated purposes.
Scripture Recall's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Storage and Retention
Collections, settings, ratings, cached passage text, and the random API.Bible device identifier remain in Chrome local storage until the user changes them, clears the extension's data, or uninstalls the extension. The random session identifier remains in Chrome session storage for the browser session. The Scripture Recall backend does not intentionally persist Bible references, FUMS identifiers, or extension settings. Infrastructure and Bible API providers may retain request or reporting data according to their own policies.
Security
Published versions of the extension transmit passage requests to the Scripture Recall backend over HTTPS. The backend application key is not included in the extension package.

Passage retrieval may use:
- YouVersion Platform privacy policy
- API.Bible / American Bible Society privacy notice
- ESV API policy
- bible-api.com
These services process requests under their respective policies and terms.
User Control
Users can edit or delete personal collections inside the extension. Uninstalling the extension removes its locally stored data from Chrome. Users may also clear extension storage through Chrome's extension controls.
Changes
Material changes to these practices will be disclosed before updated data handling begins.
